Euro Airport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg
EuroAirport’s main runway to reopen earlier than planned
Ein Dokument
Following successful technical and safety inspections, EuroAirport will be able to reopen its main runway 15/33 earlier than originally scheduled. Thanks to excellent construction progress and favourable weather conditions, flight operations on the main runway will resume as early as tomorrow, Saturday, May 16, 2026. This was originally scheduled for May 21.
The reopening of the main runway will have no impact on the flight schedules already published by the airlines. The regular flight programme remains unchanged. With the resumption of operations on the main runway, the usual arrival and departure flight paths will be reinstated as of May 16.
The refurbishment works on the main runway and Taxiway Bravo progressed according to schedule. The works were necessary to ensure the infrastructure’s safety and long-term operational reliability. Concrete was deliberately chosen for the refurbishment as it is better suited to withstand heavy loads and high levels of stress to which main runways are subjected over the long term. The concentrated full runway closure enabled the works to be carried out efficiently and completed ahead of schedule.
Moreover, EuroAirport has taken advantage of the period of reduced operations to upgrade various areas of the terminal. These include new carpets and flooring, modernised arrival areas, enhancements to the terminal car parks and renovations within the lounge and the Y-Finger Dock. In addition, Hall 3 has been extensively modernised and fully equipped with self-service bag drop stations. The hall will gradually resume operations starting in late May 2026.
During a transition phase leading up to the summer holidays, minor construction works will still occasionally take place within the terminal. These remaining works are scheduled to be completed during the month of June.
EuroAirport is pleased to have completed the refurbishment of the main runway ahead of schedule and thanks passengers, partners, employees and local residents for their understanding throughout the refurbishment period.
