Liechtenstein signs Digital Economy Agreement with Singapore

Vaduz (ots)

On 25 September 2025, the EFTA States Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway signed the Digital Economy Agreement (DEA) with Singapore in Bern. Ambassador Frank Büchel, Permanent Representative of Liechtenstein to the international organisations in Geneva, took part in the ceremony on behalf of Liechtenstein. The DEA adds a new chapter on digital trade to the existing Free Trade Agreement, which has been in force since 2003.

Singapore is of growing economic importance for Liechtenstein businesses. Its political stability, innovation-friendly economic policy, and geographical location make Singapore an attractive hub. The new chapter in the Free Trade Agreement highlights the strategic importance of digital trade as a key driver of economic growth, facilitating seamless digital trade between companies in the EFTA States and Singapore. It enables businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises, to benefit from new opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy. In addition, the chapter contains provisions for open and secure cross-border data flows and the establishment of a trusted digital environment for individuals and businesses, including the protection of personal data. The parties also reaffirm the importance of cooperation in areas such as fintech, artificial intelligence, and interoperability of digital infrastructures.
