Liberty Global Inc. has appointed Rudolf
Fischer as Managing Director of the Swiss cable network company
cablecom, effective immediately. The decision was made within the
scope of cablecom's greatly advanced integration and confirms the
company's previous course. Liberty Global acquired cablecom in the
fall of 2005.
Rudolf Fischer, a member of cablecom's management for many years,
becomes Managing Director Switzerland as of April 3 and, accordingly,
head of the largest Swiss cable network company. The decision was
made in conjunction with cablecom's advanced integration in Liberty
Global's European undertaking, UPC Broadband. Gene Musselman,
Chairman and COO of UPC Broadband, said: "Cablecom's integration is
at a very advanced stage, and the future structures have been
established. I am pleased that we have been able to enlist Rudolf
Fischer, an experienced manager, for the position of Managing
Director Switzerland. He will continue to lead cablecom on its
present road to success."
The 50-year-old Fischer joined cablecom in September 2001 as COO
and has helped shape the company's successful development over the
past five years - in particular its turnaround and strategic
reorientation. Fischer led cablecom's operations from 2001 to 2004,
and in January 2005, he focused his efforts on the department for
commercial customers and the Romandie and Tessin regions.
Before joining cablecom, Fischer held various leading positions
with the consultancy firm of Arthur D. Little, most recently as
Global Leader in the telecommunications sector. Prior to his work at
Arthur D. Little, he was CEO of Ascom Ericsson Transmission AG.
Fischer graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology with
a degree in electrical engineering and holds an MBA from the Graduate
School of Business Administration, both in Zurich.
Herb Hribar, who has provisionally managed cablecom since November
2005, will leave the company as previously arranged at the end of
June 2006.
