Interview with Delia Bohren from Stutz mit Delia

What is your current role?

I have a finance blog called Stutz with Delia. It's still relatively young; I started it in March 2023. The reason for this was that I realized after my studies that I had a first income and didn't really know what I could do with it. I realized that others had just as little idea as I did.

In their 30s, women start to talk about property and children, and I realized that even well-educated women become financially dependent without even questioning it.

I asked myself why this was the case. A lot of it has to do with our socialization, and I started to educate myself and then share my learnings so that they are accessible to other women. And that's exactly what I do now on my blog, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

What did you do to get to where you are today?

First of all, I thought about how I handle my money. Then I attended workshops and read a lot of books.

This enabled me to build up my own finances properly and take control of my pension provision. I also took my investments into my own hands and got rid of bad investments.

I am particularly interested in the context of education. What are children taught up to the age of seven, when neuroplasticity is very high? What can be done better there? There are studies from the USA that show that we talk about money differently with girls than with boys.

I then started to pass on my knowledge, as if I were giving advice to a good friend or my niece.

What qualities should women have in order to become financially independent?

First of all, you should have a goal. The question is: what do you want to achieve so that you stick with it and don't switch off right away? You shouldn't despair if things don't work out right away. It's better to see it as an opportunity to improve. Ask yourself what people are interested in and where your strengths lie. How can you share what you know with others and utilize your strengths?

If you want to work in online business, you should, of course, look at who your target group is and whether your product fits in with them. You should also draw up a business plan and look at the price segment in which you can or would like to sell your courses.

The next important point is networking. There is often a lack of female role models, and this is often underestimated. It's important to go to events and get to know other women, and maybe you'll suddenly have such a woman in your life.

What qualities should men have in order for a collaboration with women to be fruitful?

Men should also reflect on why they approach things in one way or another. Many companies are now diverse, not just because of gender but also because of educational qualifications or cultural background.

Everyone, regardless of gender, should simply be open and realize that social background, gender, or skin color can bring advantages or disadvantages and that this does not necessarily have to be a bad thing.

It is important to be open to different views or ideas. If everyone comes from the same social and cultural background, then it can mean a standstill, and a different culture can perhaps bring a new drive to a project.

This also has something to do with openness and self-reflection—that one's own way does not always have to be the ultimate right way and does not necessarily have to be good for everyone. However, you shouldn't see this as criticism but as an opportunity to contribute to something greater with something good.
