Launch of EU’s new Entry-Exit System starting October 12, 2025

On October 12, 2025, the European Union will launch the new Entry-Exit System (EES). This Europe-wide system documents the entries and exits of non-EU nationals in the Schengen Area to increase security and efficiency at the borders. The following applies to EuroAirport: the vast majority of passengers is not affected. EU citizens, Swiss travellers as well as persons with valid residence permits for the EU or Switzerland can continue to travel as usual. Thanks to the gradual launch, the overall impact on waiting times should be limited. However, during the initial period, delays may occur at peak times, which EuroAirport will address in cooperation with the authorities by implementing targeted measures.
Implementation at EuroAirport
In collaboration with the competent border authorities, EuroAirport carried out the required adjustments:
- The border authorities provided dedicated kiosks for biometric data registration (digital fingerprints and facial images) and adapted the infrastructure for checks and controls.
- EuroAirport, for its part, implemented a support service that includes the deployment of floorwalkers, enhanced signage and information displays as well as the provision of online information.
What travellers may expect
- The gradual introduction of the EES decided by the EU should generally keep waiting times to a minimum.
- However, during the first few weeks, there may be longer waiting times, especially during peak hours. EuroAirport is working in close collaboration with relevant authorities in order to optimise passenger flows as much as possible.
