Juice Technology AG, the world's leading manufacturer of portable charging stations, has announced the launch of its Juice Phaser. Owners of e-cars with single-phase charging can rejoice: from now on, they can charge their cars twice as fast - without overloading their domestic power connection.

Until now, the Jaguar I-PACE, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq and Kona, Kia Soul and e-Niro, Vauxhall/Opel Ampera-E and many other electric cars could only be charged from domestic power supplies with single-phase power. Unfortunately this meant extremely long charging times. The Vauxhall/Opel Ampera-E takes 15 hours to charge fully, for example. And sure, charging would be quicker using DC power, but DC charging stations cost between 10 to 20 times more than AC charging stations.

Enter Swiss charging specialist Juice Technology to address the problem and come up with a solution: Juice Phaser. This device can be connected to a standard 16-amp three-phase socket (CEE 16, red), supplying 25 amps for single-phase charging. Instead of delivering an output of 3.7 kW, the charger can deliver 5.8 kW - yet is still fully compliant with the statutory unbalanced load restrictions. Which means that our Vauxhall/Opel Ampera-E now charges in around nine hours. Or in other words, it's now possible to charge even cars with single-phase charging at home overnight, or over the course of a working day in the office.

The Juice Phaser is ready for use with the world's most widely used portable charging station, Juice Booster 2, for ultimate convenience and guaranteed charging reliability. These two devices work together to provide the ideal package, with inbuilt CE-conformity and EMC compliance. In the words of Christoph Erni, Juice Technology CEO, "Juice prides itself on developing and manufacturing an extremely reliable infrastructure for its customers, allowing them to charge their cars quickly, simply and safely, no matter where they are. And of course we guarantee compliance with the latest regulations."

The Juice Phaser can be connected directly to a CEE 16 socket, or straight to the mains. It's also waterproof and as such is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Why do we need the Juice Phaser?

1. To prevent unbalanced loads Virtually all European countries prohibit
unbalanced loads in excess of 16 amps (single-phase power only). The
current limit in Germany is actually 20 amps, but this is due to come
down to 16 amps in the near future.
2. Single-phase e-car charging Car manufacturers can save money by just
fitting cars with single-phase chargers. This is at the expense of
consumers, who are still only able to charge with up to 16-amp
   single-phase power (see Point 1).
3. Domestic supply: Many buildings have 25 amp protection. This means that the
connected load available for charging e-cars is a maximum of 16 amps, as
other domestic loads are usually drawing power at the same time.

The phaser meets all associated requirements, never draws more than 16 amps, but supplies 25 amps to the charger, halving charging times in the process.

About Juice Technology

Juice Technology AG, based in Cham (Zug, Switzerland), was founded as a start-up in 2014 by marketing specialist, management consultant and Tesla driver Christoph R. Erni. Unable to find any user-friendly charging options for his first electric car, he gradually started to put together his vision of making charging an e-car as straightforward as plugging in a mobile 'phone. The company shot to prominence as a European market leader in the portable 22 kW charge controller sector in its very first year of trading with the Juice Booster 1 portable charging station.

Since then, Juice has steadily built on its reputation as a major manufacturer of charging infrastructure, introducing world firsts such as temperature sensor technology in the connectors themselves, payment using standard credit cards, or infinitely scalable load management. Juice currently employs 58 people in its development, production, marketing and sales teams across Switzerland, Germany and China. What's more, the company has managed to treble its turnover year on year.
