July 14, 2008 - centrotherm photovoltaics
AG has won a major strategic order from Shanxi Lu'an Mining
Corporation Ltd, Houbu, Shanxi, China, which comprises almost the
entire value-creation chain ranging from polysilicon production
through to solar cell manufacturing. Besides two 30 MW turnkey
production lines to produce solar cells, the company is supplying a
large number of reactors and converters, and is offering engineering
services for polysilicon production. The plants that centrotherm
photovoltaics is supplying will enable the production of around 2,500
tons of polysilicon. The parties have agreed to not disclose the
order volume.
The supply of the plants and production lines is planned to start in
mid-2009. This means the order will have an impact on sales and
earnings in 2009 and 2010. The order raises the total order book
position to EUR 874.2 million.
"This order has major strategic significance for us," commented Hans
Autenrieth, Management Board member of centrotherm photovoltaics AG.
"We have not only managed to successfully place our turnkey
production lines as the first supplier in China, but we have also
reached an important milestone on our way to the fully integrated
factory: we are already in a position to offer our customers
technology and equipment ranging from silicon production all the way
through to solar cells. The fact that this is more than simply a
vision of the future is demonstrated by the confidence invested in us
by our new Chinese customer, Shanxi Lu'an. We also anticipate dynamic
developments in future here."
China is one of the world's largest markets for the production of
solar cells and solar modules. Over 50 established manufacturers in
China are driving continued demand for polysilicon and turnkey
products in the solar cell area. Sector specialists anticipate an
installed cell capacity of 4 Gigawatt by the end of 2009.
