Engagement Migros now promotes design

Switzerland (ots)

With the Engagement Migros development fund launched in 2012, Migros is entering the field of design promotion and aims to build bridges between creativity and the market at the interface between design and business. The two innovative programmes Mode Suisse and Creative Hub were presented at a press conference held on 10 June 2013 at Design Miami/Basel.

Switzerland has a long-standing and rich design tradition focusing on creation. The road between an idea, no matter how outstanding it might be, and market launch is a long one. It is here that the design promotion of Migros, made possible by the Engagement Migros development fund, comes into play. Hedy Graber, Head of Cultural and Social Affairs at the Federation of Migros Cooperatives, is delighted about Migros' new corporate social commitment: "Our programmes support young and successful designers in bringing their ideas one step closer to the market. The prerequisite is a good dose of entrepreneurial spirit and endurance."

The programmes and support channels of Engagement Migros design promotion have been drawn up since the start of 2013 in close consultation with the Federal Office of Culture, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and other experts. Coordinated design promotion is a novelty in this country and is aimed at optimally strengthening design work in Switzerland by creating interfaces and points of contact and enhancing the sustainability of the individual initiatives. The Federal Office of Culture and Engagement Migros are presenting their interwoven sponsorship programmes to an international audience under the heading Swiss Design Enhancement at Design Miami/Basel.

The Creative Hub is a network organisation aimed at promoting the Swiss design industry. Its programmes support designers in further developing ideas and prototypes with potential and launching them on the market. The Hub will be running a sales laboratory called Creative Platform from 10 to 16 June in Hall 4.0 at Messe Basel. The market trial with a small batch aims to create visibility among customers and buyers and to tell some interesting stories about contemporary Swiss design.

Mode Suisse presents selected Swiss fashion each spring and autumn at fashion shows and the showroom in Zurich and Geneva and supports fashion designers in positioning themselves on the market. At Design Miami/Basel, Mode Suisse presents a high-quality cross-section of Swiss fashion design in Hall 4.0 as an Edition Spéciale. Mode Suisse has been supported by Engagement Migros since the second edition.

About Engagement Migros The Engagement Migros development fund was launched in 2012 to enable Migros to give voluntary support to projects in the fields of culture, sustainability, business and sport. The projects are funded by Migros Group companies with commercial activities in retailing, financial services and travel. The funds made available represent ten percent of the dividends disbursed by the companies each year. The development fund stems from Migro's commitment to corporate social responsibility, supplementing the sponsorship work carried out by the Migros Cultural Percentage.
