Atmel and TazTag Collaborate to Offer the First Secure NFC Electronic Wallet

Rousset and Rennes, France (ots/PRNewswire)

Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) and TazTag(TM), announced
today that the two companies are collaborating to bring to market
all-in-one contactless solutions to store and protect personal data.
As a first step in their collaboration, TazTag is using the Atmel
AT98SC016CU turnkey security module in TazCard(TM), the first NFC
electronic wallet.
"The choice of an Atmel's security module became obvious when we
decided to secure our nomad contactless smart object," said Eric
Fouchard, CEO of TazTag. "The cooperation between a fingerprint
sensor and the AT98SC016CU safely protects the access to personal
data and the applications in the TazCard."
"Our AT98SC turnkey security solutions are the right choice when
it comes to securing portable compact devices with energy
constraints," stated Olivier Debelleix, Atmel's Marketing Manager for
Embedded Security. "We are excited to bring our security expertise to
this original and modern communicating application."
The TazCard is a new multi-purpose highly secured NFC device in a
slim credit card format (only 6 mm in thickness). This personal safe
with a large touch screen, a fingerprint sensor and various
communication interfaces (NFC, USB, ZigBee(R)) allows a wide range of
security applications such as access control, ticketing, couponing
and payment. If required, a complete Java Software Development Kit
makes possible the easy addition of further customized applications.
Atmel is a leading provider of secure microcontrollers for smart
card applications for telecoms, banking and government markets. With
over 25 years of solid experience in designing secure
microcontrollers, Atmel's products have been granted many of the
highest security certifications in the industry including Common
Criteria EAL4+/EAL5+, FIPS 140-2, ZKA and EMVCo. Thanks to its AT98SC
family of secure turnkey solutions, Atmel offers fast and easy
integration of security in any system. There is no required complex
program development or heavy ROM masking, nor specific expertise in
security. This means accelerated product time-to-market for
customers, thereby offering significant advance over competition.
TazTag is demonstrating the TazCard at CeBIT, in Hannover,
Germany, from March 3 to March 8, 2009.
