Atmel's SecureAVR Microcontroller Awarded Common Criteria EAL4+ Certification for Healthcare and Banking Applications
Rousset, France and Heilbronn, Germany (ots/PRNewswire)
- New Chip Boasts Industry's Highest Proven Resistance Against Any Security Attack
Atmel(R)Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), a global leader in the development and fabrication of advanced semiconductor solutions, announced today that the AT90SC12836RCT based on the secureAVR(TM) architecture has been granted Common Criteria certification EAL4+ augmented to AVA_VLA.4. This vulnerability assessment corresponds to today's highest proven resistance against any security attack. This chip also received MasterCard Cast and approval.
The AT90SC12836RCT features 36 Kbytes of EEPROM, 128 Kbytes of ROM program memory and 5 Kbytes of RAM. It shares the same common features of Atmel's secureAVR(TM) family including its outstanding 8-bit/16-bit RISC core and the new AdvX(TM) crypto accelerator for an increased PKI performance and a significant security enhancement.
Atmel's AT90SC12836RCT secure microcontroller is specifically tailored to serve healthcare, banking and government applications to meet the requirements in terms of a high performance secure platform at a very competitive price.
The AT90SC12836RCT has already been chosen for the new generation of Vitale(TM) French National Health Card. In fact, Atmel has been a major component supplier from the beginning of the SESAM-Vitale program, in April 1998 by delivering more than 40 million secure microcontrollers.
"The security features of the secureAVR 8-bit/16-bit RISC family have once again been highlighted with this new reward," said Michel Bartosik, Atmel's Smart Card IC Business Development Manager. "This new certification leverages Atmel's expertise to design highly secure smart card ICs and reinforces its commitment to serve government and banking markets with the best products."
