Orange SA and Microsoft offer MSN messaging services to over 40 million Orange customers

Lausanne (ots)

MSN Messenger and Hotmail on mobile phones
  • Access to mobile MSN messaging and Hotmail services via SMS for over 40 million Orange customers
  • Available on a wide range of phones and operating systems - no need to buy a new phone
  • Orange becomes the first mobile operator to offer MSN services Europe-wide.
Orange SA, one of the world's largest mobile operators, and MSN,
one of the leading internet service providers worldwide, have
announced a new range of mobile instant messaging and e-mail services
to complement the messaging services already available to Orange
customers across Europe.
Over 40 million Orange customers will be able to use MSN Hotmail
and messaging on their mobile phone. Orange customers in Switzerland
can sign up for the mobile MSN Hotmail and messaging service at
www.msn.ch/mobile/. The new services are also being launched
immediately in the Netherlands, the UK and Denmark. They will be
available to Orange customers in Belgium and France towards the end
of this year.
Using the mobile MSN Messenger services, Orange customers can hold
instant messaging conversations with friends and acquaintances on
their mobile phone in real time by SMS. They can also check to see
which of their friends ("buddies") are online. In addition, PC users
can see at a glance which of their MSN Messenger buddies can be
reached by mobile phone.
The co-operation agreement between Orange and MSN - the first MSN
has signed with a mobile operator on a Europe-wide basis - will
enable customers to receive SMS notifications when a new e-mail
arrives in their MSN Hotmail inbox. Customers can also forward or
reply to e-mail messages by SMS. Both services are available without
any additional subscription.
For each SMS message sent in Switzerland to MSN Hotmail and
Messenger, Orange customers in Switzerland will pay 15 Rappen, or 25
Rappen without the Orange SMS option. A charge of 20 Rappen will be
made for each SMS message received from the MSN Hotmail and Messenger
services. The cost of receiving an SMS message from MSN Hotmail and
Messenger outside Switzerland is also 20 Rappen. SMS messages sent to
the MSN Hotmail and Messenger services from outside Switzerland will
be charged at the applicable roaming rate.
