Liechtenstein and the Czech Republic establish diplomatic relations

Vaduz, Liechtenstein (ots)

Establishment of diplomatic
relations and agreement on declaration and joint co-operation
memorandum - Shared goal is closer relationship based upon
constructive partnership as well as foreign policy co-operation -
Historical Commission to examine joint history as well as the
relationship between the two countries during the 20th century
The governments of Liechtenstein and the Czech Republic have
agreed to establish diplomatic relations. This morning, Monday, the
two countries reached agreement on a corresponding declaration as
well as on the signing of a joint memorandum on future co-operation.
The shared goals of the governments of the Principality of
Liechtenstein and of the Czech Republic are closer relations based
upon partnership as well as co-operation within the context of the
process of European integration and within international
organisations. This is not least in the economic interests of the two
states and their populations.
The two states are linked by a joint European inheritance and the
centuries-old history of the House of Liechtenstein in the lands of
Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Liechtenstein and the Czech Republic
are of the view that relations between both states can be developed
on the basis of this shared inheritance and joint European values,
and that this can also enable the different positions which sprung up
over the course of an eventful history to be overcome.
Liechtenstein and the Czech Republic have resolved to set up a
Historical Commission to examine the joint history of Bohemia,
Moravia, Silesia and the House of Liechtenstein, as well as the
relationship between the two countries throughout the 20th century.
The goal of this Historical Commission is to contribute towards a
reciprocal understanding of the shared history, opportunities and
challenges.
Within the framework of their beneficial partnership and friendly
relations, the Czech Republic and the Principality of Liechtenstein
will also be promoting a regular exchange of ideas.
