ALIPH announces new envelope of USD 200,000 to safeguard cultural heritage in Ukraine

Geneva, Switzerland, June 17, 2026 — With Ukrainian cultural heritage recently suffering from severe and tragic damage, ALIPH is deploying a new emergency funding package of USD 200,000 to support its stabilization and protection. The strikes carried out in May and June 2026 severely damaged museums, historical monuments, religious sites, film institutions, and libraries, particularly in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro. Among the affected sites are the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio, the Kharkiv Art Museum, and the Mystetskyi Arsenal National Art and Culture Museum Complex.

In coordination with Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and the Ukraine Cultural Heritage Fund (UCHF), ALIPH will finance the following emergency measures:

  • Emergency technical assessments of damaged buildings and collections;
  • Temporary stabilization measures for affected monuments and historical buildings;
  • Protection, evacuation, or temporary relocation of collections exposed to immediate risks;
  • Procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies required for first-response interventions;
  • Support to affected cultural institutions to enable them to continue their essential safeguarding and protection activities.

These measures will be implemented by local partners with whom ALIPH has been working since 2022, in close coordination with the relevant Ukrainian authorities and the institutions concerned. The Foundation is currently working with the National Art Museum of Ukraine (NAMU) to support initial emergency measures aimed at protecting its collection, which is now particularly vulnerable; with Mystetskyi Arsenal Art and Culture Museum Complex on damage assessment; and with the NGO Museum for Change to assist the Kharkiv Art Museum and other recently affected institutions.

Since March 2022, ALIPH has committed USD 8.3 million to the protection of Ukrainian heritage through 245 projects, 220 of which have been completed. The Foundation has notably supported more than 500 organizations; helped protect the collections of over 350 museums, libraries, and archives; upgraded 17 storage facilities; provided four “heritage ambulances”; documented 120 buildings; and stabilized several historical monuments, particularly in Odesa.

In addition, Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture selected ALIPH as its technical partner to establish the UCHF. Created in Brussels in late 2025, the fund is now operational. For more information, visit the UCHF website: https://uchf.com.ua/.
