EuroAirport is taking another important step toward modern and efficient passenger handling: starting this week, check-in for selected airlines will be handled via self-service devices (Self Bag Drop devices, SBD). The relevant check-in area is temporarily located in Hall 2 and, as of May, will be operational in modernised Hall 3. Further airlines are expected to follow suit as soon as possible. The goal of this change is to make the check-in process more efficient and independent for passengers.

By introducing self-service technology, EuroAirport is making a targeted investment in improving Passenger Experience. In the future, travellers will be able to check in independently for the most part: they will go to a check-in kiosk, print out their boarding passes and baggage tags there if need be, and then drop off their luggage at a Self Bag Drop point. Passengers can contribute to a smooth launch of the system as well by checking in online in advance, removing any old baggage tags from their luggage and by following the instructions provided on site. This will contribute to reducing waiting times, facilitating procedures and increasing travellers’ comfort, in particular during peak times. Overall check-in coordination will continue to be provided by ground handling service provider Swissport, which is supporting the transition in cooperation with EuroAirport.

Temporary adjustment of the check-in areas

As part of the gradual modernisation of the check-in process, 24 check-in kiosks and 14 self-service bag drop devices are now available in Hall 2 and 4. At the same time, Hall 3 has been temporarily closed in order to be equipped with check-in kiosks and self-service bag drop facilities as well. By the end of May 2026, in time for the summer peak season, all four check-in halls will be fully operational again.

Increased comfort and more efficient processes

With the help of this new infrastructure, EuroAirport is expecting noticeable improvements in processes in the medium term. As soon as the new process has been successfully implemented, more passengers and luggage items can be handled in less time. This benefits both travellers as well as participating airline and ground handling partners.

The extension of self-service check-in areas will be carried out gradually and in close cooperation with the airlines and handling agents. Further integrations are already in the planning stages.

With this investment, EuroAirport is emphasising its commitment to continuously developing the airport platform in order to improve travellers’ comfort in the long term.
