Reforms and greater efficiency are important
political goals in Turkey, but are often difficult to implement. The
German Government has also recognized the enormous potential for
market development in Turkey: The expansion and stabilization of the
business relationship between Germany and Turkey is of great
importance. This was also the goal of the official visit in Turkey
from May 26 until May 28, 2010 by the Federal Minister for Economic
Affairs, Rainer Brüderle, who was accompanied by 21 prominent
business leaders ready to lend their expertise. Frank Gotthardt, the
founder and chairman of the board of the Koblenz-based medical
software company, CompuGROUP, was one of those experts.
Ankara and Istanbul - those are enigmatic names that light up the
eyes of many German vacationers and educational travelers. But the
Federal Minister, Rainer Brüderle, and his companions were not
focusing on the beautiful weather during their trip to these
destinations, but instead were addressing tangible economic and
political questions. "Many German businesses have already established
themselves in Turkey - and backwards. We want to expand those
German-Turkish economy and business relationships. We were able to
appraise the current situation during our trip and to start
generating concrete strategies, together with our Turkish partners",
said the Federal Minister.
The exchange took place at the highest political level - evidence of
the importance that Turkey attaches to the German-Turkish business
relationship. Discussion partners for the German delegation included
the Minister of State, Ali Babacan, who is also the Deputy Prime
Minister and is responsible for economic matters, Egemen Bagis, the
Minister of State and EU Chief Negotiator, as well as the Minister
of Industry and Trade, Ergün.
The reform efforts for the health care system that are currently
underway present an immense challenge for the Turkish politicians.
Due to the introduction of a family physician system in Turkey,
modern doctor information systems, such as those offered by
CompuGROUP, are currently in high demand.
A Turkish government delegation already visited CompuGROUP in Koblenz
in December of 2009 to gather information about the German software
solutions and its suitability for their country. The experts were
interested in how to improve the quality of medical care with
simultaneous cost savings. This is an enormous challenge in a large
country like Turkey, which is almost twice the size of Germany, with
an almost identical population. In the opinion of CompuGROUP´s CEO,
Frank Gotthardt, at the same time this is a task that can be
accomplished with the help of intelligent software. "The Turkish
family physicians can accomplish the leap into the e-health future
with the help of our modern doctor information system networks and
thereby achieve the best medical services for their patients in a
particularly effective manner", emphasized Frank Gotthardt, whose
company is already represented in 18 countries - including a
successful presence in Turkey.
"So-called Medical Decision Support Systems are able to
electronically provide relevant medical information for pending
decisions to physicians, with lightning speed and in the right place,
at the right time. The information is tailored precisely to the
respective patient´s health record", according to the CEO of the
Koblenz-based company. Particular advantages of the CompuGROUP
products are: The process-optimized IT solutions are modular,
flexible and can be seamlessly integrated into existing
infrastructures. Since this system can be utilized just as easily in
rural areas as in cities, it is particularly suitable for the
infrastructure of a large country like Turkey with a low population
density.
The Turkish hosts also needed information regarding the subject of
telematics infrastructure. When it functions smoothly, it also
represents an important component for a more efficient health care
system. CompuGROUP concepts, such as the web-based personal health
record "vita-X" could also serve as a model for this aspect. Through
the health record, all of the service providers are linked across
sectors and have online access to the patient´s relevant medical data
during treatment, without a time delay. Of special importance is the
maximum data security offered through the "vita-X" technology, due to
anonymized and coded data storage. Thanks to a special safety
procedure, called "technical appropriation protection" by experts, it
is factually impossible, even for administrators or insiders, to
manipulate, steal or appropriate sensitive patient information.
Rainer Brüderle and his travel companions were convinced after the
official visit: The German solution approaches are falling on
extremely fertile ground in Turkey. After the conclusion of the
event, the German business leaders´ focus was therefore not on saying
goodbye, but on looking forward to an even more intensive
German-Turkish collaboration.
