AZ Sint-Lucas Hospital Installs New FUSION PACS(TM) System Integrated Solution for Digital Imaging From Merge Healthcare

Milwaukee and Toronto (ots/PRNewswire)

Cedara, a Merge
Healthcare company (Nasdaq: MRGE), and a leading independent
developer of medical software technologies for the global healthcare
market, and their Distributor in the Benelux, ImaXperts BV, have
finalized the installation of a new FUSION PACS(TM) for the AZ
Sint-Lucas Hospital in Gent, Belgium. The FUSION PACS(TM) system
from Merge Healthcare transforms the process of taking imaging
pictures and printing them on film to a filmless digital environment
where images are read and reports are created on computer
workstations. This new solution will allow the radiology department
at both the Sint-Lucas and Volkskliniek locations to optimize their
workflow and integrate with the overall MEDLUCAS EPR. In addition,
images and reports can be sent quickly to referring physicians via
the Internet.

"The FUSION PACS system is an important component of our overall
plan to create complete electronic patient information," says Dr. F.
Delens, chair of the ten-member radiologist team. "We are thrilled to
have a solution in place that will replace the time and cost of
moving films through our hospitals with a faster and more precise
digital system. We believe the FUSION PACS(TM) solution from Merge
Healthcare will enhance our relationships with referring physicians
and overall patient satisfaction."
The FUSION PACS(TM) solution was brought to AZ Sint-Lucas by
ImaXperts BV, a Dutch distributor specializing in digital imaging.
ImaXperts worked closely with Dr. Delens and the staff at AZ
Sint-Lucas to create the solution that best fit their needs. "We were
delighted to work with AZ Sint-Lucas," says Wim Schuur of ImaXperts
BV. "We believe the FUSION PACS(TM) system from Merge Healthcare will
help them achieve their ambitious goals for electronic patient
information solutions and increased clinical effectiveness. The
implementation time of three months for a hospital this size is a top
achievement."
