In the first three months of the current financial year Pongs & Zahn Aktiengesellschaft achieved sales at the consolidated Group level totalling EUR 19,362,000 (2005, Pongs & Zahn AG: EUR 13,454,000), 95 percent of which were accounted for by the plastics segment. The increase over the first three months of 2005 was based firstly on the continued expansion of the plastics trading business with major international customers, and secondly on the initial consolidation of Group companies in this segment. As earnings for the period the Pongs & Zahn Group is showing a profit for the first three months of 2006 of EUR 294,000 (2005, Pongs & Zahn AG: EUR 74,000). Because of the exercising of option rights the basic capital of our company as of 31st March 2006 has risen since the closing date for the accounts on 31st December 2005 by EUR 990,000, and now stands at EUR 35,640,000. The Groups equity ratio in the first three months of 2006 thus amounted to approximately 55 percent.
Note: Pongs & Zahn Aktiengesellschaft is reporting for the first time in this Quarterly Report as of 31st March 2006 under the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in the form applicable in the EU. This means that the figures are no longer comparable with those for earlier reporting periods. The following companies, in addition to Pongs & Zahn AG, are included in the Group consolidated accounts: PONACHEM Compound GmbH, Hamburg (90 % share-ownership), VALUE PLAST AG, Munich (100 % share-ownership).
