German Jostra AG acquires Danish specialist for paediatric heart surgery

Jostra AG, the
leading  German  manufacturer of medical devices for heart surgery,
based in the Baden-Württemberg region of Germany, has acquired the
Danish market leader POLYSTAN A/S. The company will be integrated
into the Jostra Group and continue its activities as POLYSTAN A/S.
POLYSTAN is a well-established manufacturer of medical devices for
both adult and paediatric heart surgery and is one of the world
leaders in the paediatric area. With a staff of 130, POLYSTAN sales
are over 15 million EUR. POLYSTAN's products, which are developed and
manufactured in Vaerloese near Copenhagen, include oxygenators
(artificial lungs), catheters and cannulae, heart-lung machines and
biological prostheses as well as specialized monitoring and control
equipment. POLYSTAN was established in 1958 and today the company's
products are exported to more than 70 countries and used throughout
the world in many major hospitals and clinics performing adult and
paediatric heart surgery.
"With the 100% acquisition of POLYSTAN we have extended our
product portfolio and in future will be able to offer our customers
quality products in all areas - for the treatment of both adults and
children. Now that we cover all fields as a supplier, we are
represented in more than 100 countries and have effectively
strengthened our international position", according to Jostra's CEO
Christian Palme.
Jostra is a leading manufacturer of disposables and equipment for
heart surgery. Following its acquisition of POLYSTAN Jostra expects
to have sales of around 150 million EUR and will have more than 1,000
employees worldwide. It was only in July of last year that JOSTRA
caused an industry-wide stir when the Baden-Württemberg company went
on a shopping trip in the USA and purchased the former Baxter product
division of Bentley Cardio-Pulmonary from Edwards Lifesciences, based
in Irvine/California. Bentley, now named Jostra Bentley Corp., is one
of the leading suppliers of heart surgery products to hospitals and
clinics in the USA.
Jostra AG was founded in December 1982 by the current Chairman of
the Supervisory Board, Lars   Sunnanväder. The company's headquarters
are in Hirrlingen near Tübingen, in the south-west of Germany. Jostra
also has production sites in Lund (Sweden) and Puerto Rico. In
addition, there are foreign subsidiaries in Sweden, France, Italy,
Japan, Spain, USA and China as well as sales offices in Norway, the
Netherlands and UK.
Jostra supplies its products to more than 100 countries. The
product portfolio includes heart-lung machines, oxygenators
(artificial lung), catheters and cannulae as well as implants. Jostra
is today one of  the world's leading manufacturers of disposables and
heart-lung machines for open-heart surgery.
The company POLYSTAN AS was established in 1958. It is based in
Vaerlose, a town near Copenhagen. POLYSTAN employs a total of more
than 130 people and markets its products worldwide in more than 70
countries. POLYSTAN runs its own subsidiaries in Belgium, the
Netherlands and UK and is a leading manufacturer of medical
technology products for the paediatric surgery. In the field of
paediatric heart surgery, the oxygenators "SAFE MICRO" and "SAFE
MINI" are particularly well-known.
