Swissinfo.ch - Analysis and reporting of the minaret debate

Berne (ots)

The Swiss people decided at the weekend to ban the
building of minarets in the country. swissinfo.ch has for months been
closely following and reporting on the process leading up to
acceptance of the people?s initiative.
Switzerland?s direct democracy means that it is citizens who have
the last word on important political decisions. At the weekend Swiss
voted, with a majority of 58 per cent, to accept a ban on future
minaret construction.
The minaret debate dossier provided by swissinfo.ch contains
reactions as well as analysis articles on the result of the vote and
its consequences. Further information on the debate is provided in
the form of text and images, in background reports, analysis pieces,
reportages and interviews with politicians and religious figures in
both English and Arabic.
