Harris Corporation to Supply TRuepoint(TM) Radios to Vmobile Nigeria for Access Network Expansion
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (ots/PRNewswire) -
- New TRuepoint(TM) Contract Expands "Super-highway" Backbone Already Supplied by Harris
Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), a leading global supplier of wireless equipment and services, today announced a new contract valued at US$4.4 million to supply TRuepoint(TM) microwave digital radios to Vmobile Nigeria, one of the country's leading wireless network operators. The contract represents an expansion of an existing long-term relationship between the two companies. Harris currently provides a "super-highway" microwave radio backbone for Vmobile, covering more than 1500 kilometers from southwest of Ibadan to southeast of Calabar.
Scheduled for deployment within the next three months, the TRuepoint(TM) links allow Vmobile to significantly increase its market penetration by expanding into new territories, and will offer capacity for 500,000 new subscribers. Currently, Vmobile is approaching three million active subscribers, covering over 60 cities and 2,500 communities across the six geo-political regions of Nigeria.
"This deal underscores our confidence in Harris' equipment and services," said Mr. Frikkie Vermeulen, chief engineering officer of Vmobile. "In addition to the success of our existing relationship, Harris offers exactly what we need to pursue our aggressive expansion plans, namely excellent in-country support, high-performance technology with TRuepoint(TM) and a rapid delivery schedule."
"We are proud that our TRuepoint(TM) product family will be an integral part of Vmobile's expansion strategy," remarked Darryl Parker, vice president of International Sales and Service at Harris Microwave Communications. "We've been developing our relationships in Nigeria since the early days of the local GSM network, and this latest contract will further strengthen our relationship with Vmobile."
Harris leads the wireless backhaul industry with its newest product family, TRuepoint(TM), the first universal platform for point-to-point digital communications. TRuepoint(TM)'s modular, software-selectable architecture is able to seamlessly switch between PDH and SDH applications, enabling service providers to deliver multiple applications throughout their networks.
