Cobham, England (ots/PRNewswire) - Following stories in today's media, Cargill wishes to clarify that the Italian Ministry of Health declared on 28 March 2012 that it was not sorbitol powder but sodium nitrite which caused the unexpected death in Puglia, South Italy on the 24th March 2012.

Cargill does not produce or use sodium nitrite at its starches and sweeteners plants.
