u-blox AG today announced the delivery of its millionth GPS receiver to Socket Communications, Inc., for Socket's new wireless GPS Nav Kit. The millionth GPS module, a TIM-LA, was presented personally by Nikolaos Papadopoulos, President of u-blox America, to Kevin Mills, President and CEO of Socket Communications in a commemorative celebration at Socket headquarters in Newark, California.
"u-blox revolutionized the GPS market in 1997 when we introduced the world's first surface-mount miniature GPS module," said Papadopoulos. "Now, seven years later, I am very proud to present the latest product from our successful 3rd generation TIM GPS product line as the one millionth u-blox GPS receiver to such an innovative company as Socket."
In 2001, just four years after the successful launch of the world's smallest commercial GPS receiver, u-blox introduced the successor TIM family, a one square inch form factor suited for fully automated pick and place production. This allows u-blox customers to manufacture small devices very reliably and cost effectively. Combined with the excellent performance of its low-power, 16-channel GPS chipset ANTARIS®, u-blox offers its customers unparalleled GPS accuracy and dynamic capabilities. The TIM-LA, which Socket chose for its new Bluetooth®-enabled GPS Nav Kit, is the latest and most cost-efficient device from u-blox.
