Berner Oberland-Bahnen AG / Key word(s): Half Year Results 11.09.2013 07:00 Release of an ad hoc announcement pursuant to Art. 18 KR --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Berner Oberland-Bahnen AG achieved a traffic income of 5.4 million francs in the first half of 2013, an increase of 8.1 per cent on the previous year. The development in passenger numbers exceeded the expectations of the Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB), which operates between Interlaken Ost and Grindelwald and Interlaken Ost and Lauterbrunnen. The BOB registered a traffic increase of 2.1 per cent more person kilometres compared to the previous year. It recorded a traffic income of 4.9 million francs, thus achieving an increase of 10.7 per cent. The result was largely due to the continuing high demand for the Jungfraujoch delivering a positive effect on BOB passenger numbers. Owing to the prolonged winter and recurrent snowfalls in spring, it was not possible to open the Schynige Platte Railway, which accesses the Schynige Platte excursion destination, until 8 June 2013, two weeks later than the previous year. The railway achieved a traffic income of 0.5 million francs in the first half year of 2013, a decrease of 10.4 per cent compared to the first half of 2012. The Bernese Oberland Railway recorded a loss of 0.8 million francs in the first semester of 2013. This could be halved in comparison to the previous year. The guest numbers of the Bernese Oberland Railway were also very pleasing during the months of July and August 2013. From 1 July to 31 August, the BOB was able to record an increase in traffic of 10.9% compared to the previous year. During the same period, the Schynige Platte Railway recorded a growth of 18.8% in passenger numbers.
