(NASDAQ: INVE, Frankfurt: INV), a provider of products, services and solutions for the identification, security and RFID industries, today announced its first offering in a new family of USB 3.0 Super Speed media reader/writers, the Z Class Secure Digital Reader/Writer. The new media reader for Secure Digital (SD) transfers high definition multimedia content including video, photos and music files up to ten times faster than regular high speed readers. With this first Super Speed addition to its high performance line of digital media readers, Identive now can support the latest media specifications from the SD Association, including SDXC (Secure Digital eXtended Capacity) and SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity), as well as the popular SD media from leading vendors, with high transfer speeds at their maximum performance levels. The SDXC specification offers significantly larger storage capacities than previous formats, up to 2 terabytes (TB). Additionally, large volumes of data can be transferred at accelerated speeds up 104 MB/sec for UHS-I media types (Ultra High Speed Type I). "SD media cards are ubiquitous in consumer electronic devices, and have become the dominant means of storing several gigabytes of data in a small size. The increased capacity and higher transfer speeds made possible by the SDXC format allow consumers to expand their digital portfolios and playlists to an extent never before possible," said Dr. Manfred Mueller, Executive VP of Identive and Managing Director of Identive´s ID Infrastructure division. "Our Z-class SD reader is the perfect platform for accessing all the advantages that the SDXC specification offers, offering optimum performance and a support team to ensure customers always stay ahead." Future versions of the Z Class reader will offer built-in support for near field communication (NFC), ready to read and write to NFC-enabled SD cards as they become available and to facilitate new SD usage models such as cashless payments and paperless identification. Additionally, Identive is currently porting its secure APIs to the new device that leverage SD´s native security and DRM (Digital Rights Management) capabilities, allowing the format to be used as a truly secure storage medium.
