At present, every physician maintains patient data in an isolated fashion, recording only the treatment he provided. However, illnesses frequently have a mutual causality and require an integrated therapeutic approach. A comprehensive patient history is therefore extremely helpful for optimum care, with easy access to all relevant diagnoses and therapies by all physicians during the course of a patient´s life. This is precisely what CompuGroup Medical is setting out to accomplish. During the next five years, CompuGroup Medical AG will invest 130 million euros for innovations in the healthcare system. One of the future-oriented product developments is the web-based personal health record, CGM Life. It enables the electronic exchange between medical service providers. Elaborate data collections and repeat analyses will thereby become a thing of the past - through linking various facilities, e.g. medical office, pharmacy, hospital or rehabilitation facility, many local health records will turn into one central web-based file. It bundles all of a patient´s relevant medical data. Integrated information for optimized treatment CGM Life differs from many other health records in that it is assigned to the patient and serves him, the owner of the record, as storage for his personal health information, but is primarily filled with data coming directly from the information systems of the treating physicians, pursuant to their stipulations. Due to the immediate access to correspondingly valid data, the physicians are able to directly utilize the information at hand. In addition, they can also utilize the advantages of automated processes on the basis of this structured information. These processes are made available through the CGM Software Assisted Medicine (SAM) systems and offer physicians a variety of services (e.g. medical guidelines, automated prescription drug checks, risk assessment and recommendations for a course of action). In addition, rather than spending a lot of time instructing patients, physicians are able to enter general as well as patient-specific information into the file - allowing them to devote more time on important points while talking to their patients. Data protection at the highest level CompuGroup Medical´s safety procedures not only fulfill the legal data protection requirements, but far exceed them: all sensitive data is already encrypted in the medical office and is then transferred via an additionally secured network. The protection of health data is thusly warranted at all times. Only the patient and physicians authorized by him/her are able to view the medical data and unauthorized third parties aren´t able to do so, even in theory. Technologically, CompuGroup Medical is a worldwide leader with these patented safety procedures during a time where data protection is becoming increasingly more important. Medical office example: During the consultation, lab results that were initiated by the primary physician one week ago can be reviewed in the doctor information system (DIS) by the specialist providing further care. They do not have to be specially ordered and recorded, nor do they need to be redone. Scheduling the patient for another appointment, for example to draw blood, is just as unnecessary as the time-consuming inquiry either by phone or in writing to obtain the lab values from the primary physician. Having the authenticated information at hand provides the physician with the best data base for efficient treatment. After he has concluded the discussion with the patient, the physician is able to upload copies of general information, findings, confirmed diagnoses or medication prescribed into the central health record. Transferring data between a local and a central health record is easy - the systems are linked through interfaces.
