TV5MONDE Selects Tata Communications' Content Delivery Network Services to Reach Global Audience in Real-Time

Paris (ots/PRNewswire)

- First Truly Global Support for Entertainment Initiatives in
Europe
Tata Communications, a leading provider of a new world of
communications, and TV5MONDE, the leading global French language
network, have announced that TV5MONDE has selected Tata
Communications' LiveBroadcast service to distribute key events in
real-time via the Internet. LiveBroadcast, a high-quality,
flash-based streaming service, will provide TV5 with the necessary
resources and scalability to support their quickly growing audience
and support the constant and dynamic flow of content. With a reach of
more than 180 million households, TV5 has extended their 10-year long
relationship with Tata Communications to deliver Live Internet
content as the channel increases their Web portfolio.
Tata Communications' CDN service delivers among the highest
performance and reliability in the industry while providing immediate
access to content, including High-Definition Video, without delay or
jitter. With more than 300 points of presence worldwide, Tata
Communications offers the first truly global CDN service on a
state-of-the-art, single ASN global IP network. Through the
LiveBroadcast offering, Tata Communications will provide an
end-to-end solution that will replicate and distribute content,
within a two- to four-second delay, using the company's extensive
Tier-1 IP backbone.
"As one of the largest global television networks, TV5 sought out
at solution that would allow them to deliver the most widespread
video format on the Internet while displaying the shortest delay
between signals, key benefits of Tata Communications' CDN services,"
says Genius Wong, Senior Vice President, Global IP and VPN Services,
Tata Communications. "Our company's extensive network backbone and
innovative way of broadcasting multimedia content via the Internet,
allows TV5, as well as other broadcasters and large content
providers, worldwide to seamlessly relay programming at unparalleled
speed and quality."
Tata Communications has supplied TV5 with telecom products and
services since 1999. During the recent U.S. presidential election,
TV5 added LiveTV to their Internet portfolio. With less than a week
to the broadcast of the first Obama vs. McCain debate, Tata
Communications managed to provision the end-to-end solution and have
it running flawlessly; thus, solidifying Tata Communications and
TV5's collaboration through the delivery of LiveTV.
"Following the quick turnaround and successful deployment of
services during the US presidential campaigns, Tata Communications
became the obvious choice to continue to best support and deliver our
content with an unmatched user experience," said Jean Pierre Verines,
CTO for TV5MONDE. "Tata Communications' broad global presence coupled
with their commercial and technical flexibility best matched our
vision and facilitated our move into the online distribution arena."
Using a solution that relies on the same Distributed Origin
technology as the one used in its CDN to deliver Flash/H264 Video On
Demand services, incoming Live Streams are simultaneously replicated
on every delivery node instantly by taking advantage of Tata
Communications' oversized Tier-1 IP backbone. Since no proprietary
live server-based solution is used, the LiveBroadcast service can
scale to handle any live event without requiring additional server
rollout.
In addition to LiveBroadcast, the Tata Communications suite of
CDN services powered by BitGravity includes Tata Communications CDN,
a next- generation CDN designed for a wide range of applications
providing the highest performance and reliability on a global scale;
and Tata Communications CDN Plus and CDN Secure, add value designed
for the distribution and protection of media assets.
