The management and IT consulting company AWK Group has welcomed Schmuel Holles to its team of partners as per 1 January 2022. A widely recognised expert in the energy industry, Holles will continue to develop the Utilities practice as a partner.

Schmuel Holles has been with AWK Group in various roles for over 20 years. He was - and still is - instrumental in the development and expansion of the Utilities practice. As an expert for strategy, processes and ICT along the energy value chain, he has guided energy suppliers for many years on their transformational path and in keeping with the digitalisation in the entire industry.

After starting as a consultant, Schmuel Holles soon focused on energy suppliers as a strategy, process and ICT consultant. Most recently, as Head of Utilities, Schmuel Holles managed the entire segment, managing key accounts and supervising the acquisition and further development of the team. Before joining AWK, he worked as an engineer for Ascom Business Systems and Cellcom Israel Schmuel Holles holds a degree in electrical engineering from the ETH and an MBA.

The energy landscape is in the throes of a disruptive shift involving increasing decentralisation, decarbonisation and digitalisation. The transformation of power utilities is in full swing. AWK accompanies them on this path with pertinent experience and expertise and offers support in strategic, operational and technical matters.

AWK Group has built up a strong position in Switzerland in this field in the past, which it intends to further expand under the new management structure with Schmuel Holles as a partner. Schmuel Holles' team supports energy suppliers in their challenges with a high quality of management and ICT consulting, particularly with regard to the major issues they are currently facing; these include the integration of renewable energies into the energy system, measures to ensure the security of supply, or the implementation of the proposed deregulation of the energy market.

The internationalisation of business activities as pursued by AWK makes it possible to contribute international expertise to the energy sector in particular, for a utilities sector that is increasingly closely connected in Switzerland too.

Oliver Vaterlaus, CEO of AWK Group comments: "AWK owes much of its excellent reputation in the energy sector to Schmuel Holles. He has built a strong, active community. There is scarcely an expert out there who knows the Swiss energy supply industry better than he does. The supply of energy is becoming one of the mega issues of our time. It is here we want to grow, and Schmuel will add even more weight and momentum to the Utilities practice as a new partner."
