Heimatflimmern. The Art Collections of the Swiss Post and the Kunstmuseum St.Gallen in Dialogue.
June 27–October 18, 2026, Kunstmuseum St.Gallen
The Kunstmuseum St.Gallen presents Heimatflimmern (“Glimmers of Home”), a joint exhibition produced in collaboration with Swiss Post that sees works held by the museum entered into dialogue with works from the Swiss Post’s art collection. Featuring 26 artistic positions—primarily from contemporary Swiss art but also including selected international works and a small number of historical works—the exhibition explores a question that is both timely and open ended: What can “home” mean today? With this collaboration, the Swiss Post is continuing its century-long tradition of supporting the arts.
The starting point for this collaborative exhibition project is an anniversary: for around one hundred years, Swiss Post has been committed—on the basis of a federal ordinance—to promoting artistic production in Switzerland. Swiss Post has in recent years used this commitment as an opportunity to collaborate with art museums and in doing so offer insight into its multi-faceted collection, which has so far remained largely outside of public perception. Following presentations at the Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur and the Museo Villa dei Cedri in Bellinzona, the Kunstmuseum St.Gallen is now the third partner in this exhibition series.
Each dialogue between collections focuses on a socially relevant theme. The exhibition Heimatflimmern is dedicated to addressing various notions of “home” beyond those tied to nationalism or identity. The term’s meaning has always been open and multilayered. As a surface of projection and a space of resonance, “home” is continually redefined through personal experiences, shared imagery, and political attributions. In a globally interconnected world shaped by technological change, migration, and climate change, the concept of “home” is increasingly in flux—but has not lost its significance. By putting works into dialogue, the exhibition makes the flickering complexity of “home” visible and situates it among historical influences, contemporary challenges, and future perspectives.
Featuring works by David Bürkler, Ishita Chakraborty, Julian Charrière, Martha Cunz, Fragmentin, Gabriela Gerber & Lukas Bardill, Sylvie and Chérif Defraoui, Giovanni Giacometti, Ferdinand Hodler, Nadira Husain, Mona Hatoum, Monica Ursina Jaeger, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Isabelle Krieg, Douglas Mandry, Aramis Navarro, Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs, Cyril Porchet, Rico Scagliola & Michael Meier, Jean-Vincent Simonet, Studer/van den Berg, Mina Squalli-Houssaïni, U5, Ester Vonplon, and Daniel Zimmermann.
