2008: A Growth Year for the La Prairie Group

The La Prairie Group based in Zurich-Volketswil / Switzerland can look back on a successful year. The Swiss company in the premium cosmetics segment posted double-digit growth for the fourth consecutive year. Net sales in 2008 increased by 10.2 percent, adjusted for exchange rate effects. Calculated at average exchange rates, turnover rose by 5.5 percent to CHF 416 million. Despite the financial crisis, the La Prairie Group showed qualitatively stronger and faster growth than the competitors and the market. Asia is and will remain a key source of growth for the La Prairie Group in the coming years.
Dirk Trappmann, CEO of the La Prairie Group, reports: "We achieved a very good result for 2008 despite the financial crisis at the end of the year. The key to our success is certainly the four strong, exclusive brands that complement one another optimally, as well as the innovative power of the La Prairie Group". La Prairie showed growth of +12.3 percent and Fragrances by La Prairie +27.8 percent. MARLIES MÖLLER beauty haircare generated very good results with a brilliant relaunch of the brand. It closed the year with a double-digit figure, showing a plus of +28.4 percent. SBT Skin Biology Therapy grew in 2008 by +35.7 percent. Added to the existing markets in Germany, Switzerland and Austria were Greece and Russia with a selective distribution. Growth in all SBT countries was above average. For the Swiss traditional brand JUVENA, it was a year of repositioning. The new JUVENA will be launched in April 2009 in the international selective cosmetics market.
