Roche shareholders' pool: Inclusion of the fifth generation completed

Basel (ots)

The descendants of company founder Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche have registered the inclusion of seven representatives of the fifth generation into the family pool. This means that, together with Jörg and Lukas Duschmalé, nine members of this generation are now active in the pool. The voting shareholders' pool holds an unchanged 72,018,000 shares, corresponding to 45.01% of the Roche bearer shares, and thus remains by far the most important company shareholder for the long term. The pool is made up as follows:

   - Andreas Oeri
   - Sabine Duschmalé-Oeri, Jörg Duschmalé, Lukas Duschmalé
   - Catherine Oeri
   - Stiftung Wolf. This charitable foundation holds Roche shares
       belonging to the pool families.
   - Vera Michalski-Hoffmann, Tatiana Fabre, Kasia Barbotin-Larrieu
   - Maja Hoffmann, Artuma Holding Ltd (holds shares of Maja
       Hoffmann), Lucas Hoffmann, Marina Hoffmann
   - André Hoffmann, Alexander Hoffmann, Frederic Hoffmann, Isabel
       Hoffmann

In total, therefore, the pool comprises six members of the fourth and nine members of the fifth generation. The duration of the pool was already extended for an indefinite period in 2009. On inclusion of the fifth generation into the pool, the shareholder group is thus underscoring its intention to retain the company's autonomy and independence for the long term and hence satisfy a major prerequisite for the future success of Roche.

André Hoffmann, spokesman for the family pool and Vice-Chairman of the Roche Board of Directors, has this to say: "We feel committed to upholding the legacy of the company founder, Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche. It is thus highly gratifying for us that nine members of the next generation are now represented in our pool. In this way we can offer our company an assurance that, as for more than 120 years up to now, our family will remain committed to the stability of the Roche shareholder structure in the coming decades. This provides a basis on which the company can continue to orient itself for the long term. For research and development in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics business in particular, this long-term orientation is vital to success."
