investments
Financial investor Meinl
International Power Ltd. (MIP) invests in two further renewable
energy projects. MIP raises the total number of investments to nine
with a participation in a Czech wind park and the purchase of a
Spanish solar plant further strengthening its position as an energy
investor.
MIP is investing EUR 13 million into the "La Punta" solar project on
La Palma, Canary Islands, in Spain. The solar park will have a
planned minimum output of 1.9 MWp as well as an option for future
capacity expansion, and is expected to be connected to the
electricity grid before the end of September 2008, in order to
benefit from the Spanish feed-in tariff for solar electricity. The
plant was developed and planned by Solantis S.A. as part of a larger
project that aims to meet 100% of the energy demand on the island of
La Palma from renewable sources. Stelio Solar, an experienced German
solar energy company, is managing the construction project.
In the Czech Republic, MIP is acquiring a 51% stake in the Mlynsky
Vrch wind park in the western part of the country. The Czech
ECOFinance Group s.r.o. acts as project developer and co-owner. The
plant will have an output of 8 MW and represents a total investment
of EUR 12.5 million. The start of operations is planned for the year
2009.
