CompuGROUP Holding AG, one of Europe's leading
e-Health companies, will continue to handle information technology
for the 48 Lower Austria state-owned nursing homes and nine state
schools for children and adolescents. The contract runs for five
years, with an investment of approximately 12.5 million Euros. This
is a contract that is of great importance to the Austrian subsidiary
systema during this financial crisis and which provides long-term job
security.
systema, CompuGROUP's Austrian specialist for the development of
healthcare software and headquartered in Steyr, already
revolutionized the information technology landscape of the 57
state-owned Lower Austria nursing homes as well as the state schools
for children and adolescents in 2004. An employee of the state of
Lower Austria who was involved in the project, at that time compared
it to switching from a "kick scooter to a Ferrari". Some of the
implemented systems included client administration, personnel
administration and planning, accounting, material and kitchen
logistics, as well as school and training administration for the
state schools for adolescents.
"noe|HIT" (Lower Austria state school information technology) is a
project of immense complexity and dimension. Approximately 50
employees of the state of Lower Austria were also actively working on
the implementation of the project. About 3000 employees were trained
in the applications and as a result were supported in their daily
work. In addition, systema was also responsible for the technical
implementation of the e-card integration. Card readers were installed
in all of the homes to enable the physicians to read the patient
data. The solution spectrum also included the technical equipment for
the computer center in St. Pölten, which is centrally managed by
systema.
In order to be geared up for the next five years, to warrant the
highest degree of stability and the utmost availability, complete
renewal of the computer center's hardware is planned by the summer of
2009. "Due to the rapid development of new technology, this is
necessary every three to five years at the latest", said Günther
Kaiblinger, systema's project manager, who sees a particular
challenge in completely renewing the central infrastructure "but
without the users noticing it at all". After all, 1200 clients with
approximately 4500 users are connected to the system. The extended
contract also includes maintenance, support and the computer center
operation, as well as the software utilized in the noe|HIT. During
the hardware renewal, an SAP upgrade to ECC 6.0 will also be
realized. In addition, an intranet was implemented, for which systema
supplied the infrastructure. This intranet is utilized for project
and facility-specific contents by the users and has met with broad
acceptance.
Michael Strozer, noe|HIT operations coordinator of the Lower Austria
state- owned nursing homes, is pleased that the "noe|HIT"
functionalities will be enhanced and the working relationship with
systema will continue: "We have had the best experience with systema
so far. Their employees not only possess subject matter competency,
but we can also rely on them." Similar positive comments were also
made by Ingrid Feierfeil, noe|HIT, operations coordinator of the
Lower Austria state schools for children and adolescents: "noe|HIT is
a quantum leap for us here in Lower Austria with respect to the new
technology as well as the new organization. The implementation
presented an opportunity for us to analyze and improve old ways of
working. Thanks to the CompuGROUP subsidiary systema, we were able to
significantly increase efficiency in providing health care. With the
decision that systema will continue to provide support and customer
service, successful joint enhancements to the organizational project
noe|HIT have also been guaranteed for the future."
