EANS-Adhoc: ANDRITZ HYDRO receives order for expansion of Iffezheim power station on the Upper Rhine, Germany

ad-hoc disclosure transmitted by euro adhoc with the aim of a Europe-wide
distribution. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this
  announcement.
29.04.2009
Graz/Vienna, April 29, 2009. ANDRITZ HYDRO received an order from
Rheinkraftwerk Iffezheim GmbH, 50/50 owned by German EnBW and French
EDF, for supply of the electromechanical equipment for the new unit 5
of the Iffezheim power station. The order value is approximately 25
MEUR; start-up of the new unit is scheduled for autumn 2011.
The core of the new unit is a bulb-type turbine generator set with
6.8 m runner diameter and a maximum power output of 38.5 MW. This
investment will increase the total power output of the hydropower
plant to almost 150 MW making Iffezheim the largest hydropower plant
on the Rhine. As a result, the average annual electricity production
will increase from 740 million kWh to approximately 860 million kWh
and, thus, it will be possible to supply an additional 85,000 people
with electricity from environmentally friendly hydropower.
The turbine will be designed as a bulb unit, which is a proven design
for low head power plants. The generator is directly coupled to the
horizontal turbine shaft and the generator housing is entirely
submerged in the river flow.
