Karlsruhe, June 2, 2009. init innovation in
traffic systems AG has managed to break into a new market winning its
first request for proposal in New Zealand. The Karlsruhe-based
telematics specialist has been selected to provide over 300 vehicles
of four bus companies in and around the city of Christchurch on New
Zealand´s South Island with EVENDpc, the integrated on-board computer
and electronic ticket printer. The system will also integrate two
point of sale locations and a ferry. Christchurch is the capital of
the administrative district of Canterbury, the largest of 17 regions
in New Zealand by area, and has some 520,000 inhabitants. The project
has been commissioned by Environment Canterbury, the regional council
that has opted to purchase the system and install it on all
contracted urban passenger services vehicles in the region.
The vehicles of the various operators will be fitted with the
on-board computer/ticket printer EVENDpc, which is already used
successfully by four regional transportation services of DB
Stadtverkehr GmbH in Bavaria. The customized version for the four bus
companies in the Canterbury district will integrate the on-board
computers with the background and clearing system MOBILEvario in a
single smart card ticketing system. The communication is handled via
GPRS.
The init system will further integrate the "Metrocard", previously
used by the bus companies for ticket sales. The pc-based on-board
computer and ticket printer EVENDpc from init is able to read and
write on these cards for an even customer-friendlier version to
ensure that the cards can still be used and do not need to be
replaced.
This project involving the expansion of an efficient local public
transportation system in New Zealand will have a volume in the lower
single-digit millions for init.
