The Norwegian capital has proven to be a
good place for init innovation in traffic systems. Over the past few
years, around 1000 buses and trams have provided an even faster and
more schedule-efficient service using telematics systems from init.
The current INIT system is operated by Trafikanten Oslo.
Now, the Norwegian success story of the Karlsruhe-based telematics
specialist will have a sequel underground.
Kollektivtransportproduksjon AS, the responsible organisation for
public transportation in Oslo and the parent company of Oslo
T-banedrift - the operator of the Oslo metro, opted for LED displays
from init in its decision to modernize the stations.
"We are delighted about our new customer in the Norwegian capital, as
it will allow us to further intensify our excellent customer
relations with Oslo, which we have enjoyed for some years now. At the
same time, this project will also be a key reference for other
Scandinavian cities," says init CSO, Dr. Jürgen Greschner.
Above and below ground - Oslo backs technology from init
By the end of the year, 60 LED station display systems of the type
PIDstation will initially be installed at 17 heavily frequented
stations, the majority of which are part of Oslo´s underground circle
line, T-baneringen. These systems will be fed with real-time data
using the existing dynamic passenger information system SIS from
init. Further T-bane stations may be fitted with the LED display
systems from init in the future.
At around 69 million passengers per year, the T-bane is second only
to the bus in terms of public transportation used in Oslo. The
underground network in the Norwegian capital has a trackage of some
85 kilometres and comprises 104 stations operating a total six metro
lines. All lines pass through what is known as the city centre
tunnel. Here, too, the display systems from init ensure that
passengers in the stations always know exactly on which platform to
expect their train and when the next service is due.
That the station display systems from init are perfect for this was
proven in a test run carried out over several months. Three LED
display systems were installed at central stations and fed with
real-time data using the SIS system. In the course of this test, init
managed to prevail against two of its competitors to be finally
awarded the contract.
