Basler opens Office in Japan

Ahrensburg, 28 September 2006 - Basler AG - leading provider of
Vision Technology, the technology of artificial vision - is
broadening its Asian activities by opening its own sales office in
Japan. This is the fifth location the Ahrensburg high-tech company
has in Asia, alongside its offices in Taiwan, Singapore, Shanghai and
Korea. As Dietmar Ley, CEO of Basler AG emphasises, "Japan is the
world’s biggest single market for image processing equipment which
makes it a highly promising territory for our digital
high-performance cameras. And Japanese customers especially
appreciate it when the business partner has locally based sales and
service offices."

More than 50% of Basler’s revenue last year was made in Asia, with
particularly high demand for Basler’s high-end inspection systems and
digital cameras coming from the Asian semiconductor and electronics
industries.  Basler’s Asian customers are supported by a total of 28
sales and service staff, all of whom were recruited locally. The new
bureau in Japan shall give Basler a foothold on a regional market in
excess of EUR 3 billion. To give an idea of its magnitude: in 2005
the entire European image-processing market had an estimated value of
EUR 2.7 billion. With its comprehensive product portfolio and the
high quality of its cameras, Basler sees excellent prospects for
leveraging the enormous potential of the market in the coming years.
Its recent innovation campaign unveiled more than 40 new camera
models which are best of the breed in terms of performance,
compactness and the novel Gigabit Ethernet interfaces they deploy.

Basler shall showcase itself for the first time to a Japanese trade
audience at the ITE 06 Vision Technology Exhibition to be held in
early December this year in Yokohama. With around 20,000 visitors,
last year’s exhibition was one of the major global events in the
industry’s calendar.
