New horizons for the Asset Management and Product Development of Bank Sarasin: Burkhard P. Varnholt appointed Chief Investment Officer of Sarasin Group

Burkhart P. Varnholt (38) will join Bank Sarasin & Co. Ltd as Chief 
Investment Officer (CIO) and new Head of the Asset Management, 
Products & Sales division on 1 September 2007 at the latest, when he 
takes up his seat on the Executive Committee. As a central player in 
the successful implementation of Bank Sarasin’s growth strategy, one 
of the main tasks Burkhard Varnholt will face in his new position is 
to further develop the bank’s core competences in the areas of asset 
management and product development. Burkhard Varnholt will 
considerably strengthen the bank’s innovation drive in developing 
proprietary products. Until then the Asset Management, Product & 
Sales division will continue to be managed on an interim basis by 
Joachim H. Straehle, CEO of the Sarasin Group.

The Board of Directors has appointed Burkhard Varnholt as a member of
the Executive Committee and Head of the Asset Management, Products & 
Sales division with effect from 1 September 2007 at the latest. 
Before changing to Bank Sarasin, Burkhard P. Varnholt, worked as 
Global Head Financial Products & Investment Advisory at Credit 
Suisse. His skills and knowledge enable him to implement the Sarasin 
Group growth strategy, also in this business segment. In the area of 
product development, Burkhard Varnholt will further accelerate the 
pace of innovation of the bank, supporting its international 
expansion drive. He will also be in charge to continue the provision 
of a single investment policy covering the entire Group, ensuring a 
consistent and attractive performance in the management of 
institutional and private clients’ assets.
Burkhard P. Varnholt Born 1968 in Cologne, German citizen, currently 
living in Zurich; PhD in Economics from the University of St. Gall 
(HSG). From 1998 until his switch to Bank Sarasin & Co. Ltd, Burkhard
P. Varnholt worked for Credit Suisse Private Banking in Zurich. After
joining CS as head of the Services and subsequently also the 
Investment Analysis division, he became Global Head of Financial 
Products & Investment Advisory in 2002. He was a member of the Global
Executive Council from September 2005 onwards. Prior to that, from 
1996 to 1998, Burkhard P. Varnholt worked for Morgan Stanley 
Investment Banking in London. He is also an experienced lecturer, 
having taught not only at the University of St. Gall (HSG), but also 
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Stern 
School of Business, New York University. Burkhard Varnholt has 
already published over 100 articles and for books. As a keen art 
lover and collector, Burkhard Varnholt sat on the Acquisitions 
Committee of the Tate Modern in London. In 2004 he set up the charity
Kids of Africa - The Swiss African Orphanage 
(www.kids-of-africa.com). To date this charity has built and now 
maintains a village for up to 100 orphaned homeless children in
