Rose d'Or

Rose d'Or Stays in Luzern - The Festival's New Positioning and Remembering Its Core Business

Luzern (ots)

During a media convention of the city of Luzern and
the organization "Rose d'Or", the new concept for the renowned
international competition for TV entertainment with its long
tradition was presented. Freddy Burger, the new owner of the market
rights and an entrepreneur in the entertainment and restaurant
industry, and the designated festival director Urban Frye want to
remain in Luzern and newly position the festival by remembering its
core business. The plan is to restore the Rose d'Or to being the most
important international competition in TV entertainment. Alongside
the competition, discussion panels and meetings will take place
focussing on new formats and technologies in TV production and
distribution. Frye states that "not glamour, red carpets and stars
make the success of the Rose d'Or, but the quality of the competition
with an international flair as well as a few, but relevant categories
and numerous contributions that will be judged by a knowledgeable and
trustworthy jury." The opportunity for an exchange of opinions and
networking as well as an attractive number of meetings about current
topics presided over by leading experts is designed to attract
representatives of the TV business from all around the world. Public
TV stations alongside private providers who represent an important
slice of the current TV market will be more involved in the festival
than in previous years. However, the Rose d'Or does not solely
address the big players, but also small production companies and TV
stations that keep the market alive with unconventional ideas and
formats.
Only 7 golden roses will be awarded in the main areas of variety,
drama and arts: for shows including game-, reality- and comedy shows
as well as sitcoms, soaps and telenovelas. Since entertainment is a
part of culture and culture can be entertaining, contributions in the
categories of performing arts and art documentaries will be
evaluated. In celebration of the 400th anniversary of opera, a
special opera award for the best opera recording, the best opera film
or the best documentary about an opera topic will be granted in
cooperation with IMZ (Vienna International Music Center). Another
novelty is a special prize for the best program among all
contributions.
The organizers of the "Rose d'Or" were happy that they succeeded
in partnering with renowned Suisse companies in the fields of TV
development, production and distribution: SRG SSR idée suisse with
Swiss Television (SF) and the tv productioncenter zürich ag (tpc) as
well as Swisscom Broadcast AG. In 1961, SRG SSR was one of the
founding members of the Rose d'Or. Negotiations about the extent of
cooperation are currently under way.
The new festival center will be the Grand Casino in Luzern. Its
excellent infrastructure with the panorama hall, the Casineum, bars
and restaurants and numerous meeting rooms lends itself perfectly for
the venue. The Awards Ceremony will continue to take place in the KKL
(Luzern Culture and Convention Center). The next Rose d'Or will take
place from May 5th - 9th, 2007. Additional information:
