In the first quarter of 2008, Solar-Fabrik AG (ISIN: DE0006614712) increased its consolidated sales by some 194% (53.102 million euros) compared to Q1 2007 (18.058 million euros). The net profit for the quarter under review amounted to 1.048 million euros compared to 0.806 million euros in Q1 2007. Adjusted for net currency conversion losses in the amount of 2.734 million euros, EBIT is posted at 3.253 million euros (1.003 million euros in Q1 2007), which is equivalent to a margin of around 6%.
In first quarter of 2008, the Wafer Division at Solar-Fabrik posted an overall volume of around 24.308 million euros, some 18.181 million euros of which was generated outside the Group. This Division thus increased its sales by 10.075 million euros over the level of Q1 2007, equivalent to a growth rate of approximately 71%. The segmental result amounted to 3.249 million euros (2.452 million euros in Q1 2007), with the EBIT margin exceeding 13%.
The "Solar Power Systems" Segment posted 34.911 million euros in sales in Q1 2008, almost all of which was outside the Group. Compared to Q1 2007, sales grew by some 350 % to 27.158 million euros. Overall, EBIT in the Division is posted at 49,000 euros (compared to -1.528 million euros in Q1 2007) when adjusted for net currency conversion losses. In other words, the upswing in earnings planned for 2008 was already achieved in the first quarter.
In Q1 2008, the Solar Cell Division posted a loss of 126,000 euros (compared to a loss of 152,000 euros in Q1 2007) due to the ongoing bottleneck in the supply of raw materials. For the year as a whole, a slightly positive EBIT is expected.
The Wafer Preparation segment, which currently operates nearly entirely within the Group, posted income in the amount of 82,000 euros after 234,000 euros in Q1 2007. Wafer Preparation is currently being expanded. The second plant, which will double production capacity, launches production in the second quarter of 2008. Furthermore, the first significant revenue outside the Group will be realized in the current fiscal year.
For fiscal 2008, the reliable sales revenue target remains at up to 250 million euros. The adjusted EBIT margin was around 6% in the first quarter, confirming the forecast for the year as a whole at around 5%.
