MEDIA! AG: positive trend continues in first quarter 2002/2003
Munich, November 20, 2002. The positive trend at MEDIA! AG for innovative media technology (SIN 663 330) continued through the first quarter of the 2002/2003 financial year (July 1 to September 30, 2002). In the first quarter of the current financial year MEDIA! AG improved its EBITDA by EUR 3.4 million, from EUR -3.0 million to EUR 0.4 million, compared to the last quarter of 2001/2002. Over the same period EBIT improved by EUR 4.2 million, from EUR -5.5 million to EUR -1.3 million. In the same period the net loss dropped by EUR 5.9 million, from EUR -7.5 million to EUR -1.6 million. This was achieved by focusing on the profitable core business, by lowering personnel expenditure (by EUR 0.9 million from EUR 2.6 million in the fourth quarter to EUR 1.7 million) and by reducing other operating expenses (by EUR 1.4 million in the fourth quarter from EUR 2.7 million to EUR 1.3 million). This strategy will be rigorously pursued in the second quarter 2002/2003 and will thus most probably lead to a further improvement of results. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, sales in the first quarter 2002/2003 declined by EUR 5.5 million, from EUR 10.4 million to EUR 4.9 million, almost retaining the level of sales in the fourth quarter (EUR 5.1 million). The wholly owned subsidiaries AVT MEDIA! GmbH and Protec MEDIA! GmbH which have meanwhile been integrated in MEDIA! AG and which will be consolidated from the second quarter 2002/2003, posted total sales of EUR 3.6 million for the first quarter 2002/2003 and a net income of EUR 0.1 million. As the structure of MEDIA! AG changed fundamentally over the past financial year, our figures relate to the fourth quarter 2001/2002 to create a more useful basis for comparison.
