Lucent Technologies Unveils Next-Generation IP Services Router

Murray Hill, NJ (ots)

Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today
announced the global availability of a high-performance,
competitively priced next-generation Internet protocol (IP) service
router that will enable service providers to quickly deploy managed
IP services to enterprise customers.
The new Access Point(R) 1500 router enables service providers and
Lucent Advantage BusinessPartners to provide enterprise customers in
large regional headquarters or small Point of Presence (POP)
locations a range of services from basic routing to the most advanced
IP services, including virtual private networks (VPNs), firewall
security and bandwidth management.
Baker Consultants, a Dublin, Ireland-based Lucent Advantage
BusinessPartner, is deploying the Access Point(R) 1500 in regional
sites where firewall/VPN security and IP management are critical
needs.
"The Access Point(R) 1500 will allow us to offer our customers
increased bandwidth using Lucent's class-based queuing (CBQ) routing
technology for high-performance advanced firewall and virtual private
network services in one solution," said Ronan Allen, managing
director, Baker Consultants. "The integrated CBQ routing gives us the
flexibility to assign multiple users and applications different
bandwidth policies on the network with the scalability to support up
to 5,000 remote VPN tunnels."
The new Access Point(R) 1500 continues Lucent's leadership in IP
service routing price performance by enabling customers to add
integrated IP access and advanced IP services in one solution," said
Joe Raccuglia, senior product manager, Lucent Technologies. "In
today's environment, it's important for service providers and large
enterprises to deploy revenue-generating IP services without
disrupting their existing IP infrastructure."
According to Infonetics Research, worldwide end-user expenditures
for managed and unmanaged VPN services are expected to grow 283
percent, from $10.7 billion today to $41 billion in 2005.
The Access Point(R) product line also includes the Access Point(R)
QVPN Builder(TM), a powerful, centralized IP VPN, QoS and firewall
policy manager enabling service providers to cost effectively deploy,
manage and scale site-to-site VPNs and other IP services in large
networks. In addition, Lucent VitalNet(TM), a performance and
capacity management product in the Lucent Navis(TM) iAssure product
family, supports the Access Point(R) 1500 to enable proactive
performance and event management.
The Access Point(R) 1500 is priced from $12,000 to $55,000, and
features IP forwarding rates of 700Mbps, 3DES encryption rates of
155Mbps and 1,000/5,000 IPSec site-to-site and remote access VPN
tunnels.
The Access Point(R) 1500 is supported by Lucent Worldwide
Services' RTS (Remote Technical Support) Advantage, which gives
service providers and business customers round-the-clock remote
diagnostic, problem management, and software upgrade coverage
The Access Point solutions, including the Access Point(R) 300 and
600, are part of the Lucent Service Intelligent(TM) Architecture
