VA TECH HYDRO, one of the world’s leading suppliers of equipment and
services for hydropower and combined cycle plants, has been awarded a
EUR 185 Million contract to modernise the district heating system in
Munich. VA TECH HYDRO is leader in the consortium with MAB Anlagenbau
Austria.
The turnkey contract, received from Stadtwerke München (SWM) covers
engineering, delivery, erection and commissioning of a 400 MW
Combined Cycle District Heating Plant as a future extension and
efficiency improvement of the existing plant capacity. The scope of
the contract, VA TECH HYDRO’s first for this customer, includes two
GE Frame 9E gas-turbine-generator sets, two heat recovery steam
generators and one steam-turbine generator set as well as the
district heater’s and pumping station.
The two Frame 9E gas turbines, each with a power output of 126 MW,
will be manufactured at GE Power System facilities in Belfort, France
and each will be equipped with a Dual Fuel Dry Low NOx combustion
system to limit NOx emissions and pumping stations. The two heat
recovery steam generators, district heater´s and the balance of plant
are covered by the consortium partner MAB Anlagenbau Austria. The
Combined Cycle Power Plant design provides high energy availability
as well as operation flexibility. Commissioning of the plant is
scheduled for October 2004.
The new Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) will be installed on the
area of a former municipal waste-incineration plant and has to be
connected and integrated into the existing power plant structures.
The plant has been designed to supply district heating combined with
optimised electricity output during winter season and electricity
without district heating in the summer season combined with best fuel
utilisation.
"Available space is very tight" said Helmuth Tschabuschnig, Member of
the VA TECH HYDRO Managing Board "It requires special measures for
equipment, engineering and erection and utilises our expertise in
finding tailor made solutions for district heating plants. The
contract confirms VA TECH HYDRO’s position as a leader in the
competitive market of Combined Cycle Plants and is the forth plant
built by VA TECH HYDRO in Germany in the last 5 years".
