Orange, India Achieves 21% Adoption Rate Five Months After Deploying OnMobile's Multimodal Wireless Platform
Los Altos, CA (ots) - OnMobile Systems, Inc., the leading provider of multimodal wireless solutions, announces preliminary results of the deployment of its multimodal platform by Hutchison Max Telecom Limited. Hutchison operates under the Orange brand name in Bombay, India, and is one of the fastest growing wireless carriers worldwide. Utilizing OnMobile's multimodal platform, Orange has already exceeded expectations by reaching 21% of its total subscriber base just five months after launch.
In November 2001, Orange began offering its subscribers VOX, a suite of voice-activated, user-friendly applications developed by OnMobile and powered by OnMobile's MMP2500, the first multimodal platform to be launched commercially by a carrier. Customer feedback suggests that superior usability of the applications, specifically designed to suit the mobile user and local culture, is the key factor driving market acceptance.
"Our consumer feedback tells us that VOX, powered by OnMobile's MMP2500, is gaining rapid popularity with Orange users across all user segments - businessmen and sports fans have shown particular interest," said Sanjeev Vora, Vice President Corporate Marketing, Hutchison Max Telecom Ltd.
OnMobile developed its applications with the mobile user in mind, enabling Orange to offer the most user-friendly, voice-activated applications available today. OnMobile's focus on usability has paid off, and Orange has increased minutes of usage for its services considerably. In fact, the Cricket application, which enables Orange subscribers to access live coverage of Cricket games, is so popular that system usage of the VOX service more than doubles on days when a major match is held. Orange is currently migrating value-added services from other platforms to OnMobile's multimodal platform, consolidating its platform infrastructure to gain operational efficiency.
Orange's Value Added Services Group reports, "User interface design has proven to be the critical element in defining the success of each application. OnMobile's team has demonstrated great depth of expertise in both user interface design and speech technology to deliver a user-friendly application suite."
"Our partnership with Orange has delivered results beyond our expectation," said Arvind Rao, CEO of OnMobile Systems. "While there are many voice-enhanced wireless services available today, OnMobile's in-network, multimodal platform is the first to enable a carrier to achieve unprecedented market adoption rates."
Orange is currently working with the OnMobile team to introduce additional OnMobile developed multimodal applications in India.
