People's Initiative "Mühleberg off the Grid"
BKW welcomes the outcome of the referendum

BKW welcomes voters' rejection of the "Mühleberg off the Grid" initiative. The results of the referendum show that voters in the canton of Bern trust BKW and support the decision in favour of an orderly shutdown for Mühleberg nuclear power plant in 2019. BKW will continue with the preparations to shut down the plant according to plan.
BKW is pleased with the trust voters have shown. As planned, it will implement an orderly and cost-efficient decommissioning procedure for Mühleberg nuclear power plant. BKW will carry out various upgrading projects over the plant's remaining years of operation. It plans to invest around CHF 200 million in operations and maintenance, of which some CHF 15 million is earmarked for extraordinary retrofit measures. At the end of June, BKW will then submit the related concepts to the Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI).
