Acquisition of five small hydroelectric power plants in Italy

Bern (ots)

BKW FMB Energy Ltd. (BKW) is acquiring five small run-of-river power plants from Italian energy utility Sorgenia. Located in the Aosta valley, the run-of-river power plants have a collective installed capacity of close to 8 Megawatts (MW). The acquisition expands BKW's presence in Northern Italy. Since 2006 the company has been the owner/operator of eight hydroelectric power plants in the Lago di Iseo region (Lombardy) with a collective capacity of 42 MW.

The Italian Sorgenia Group is selling a package of five small facilities each with a capacity of between 1 and 3 MW, making a total capacity of close to 8 MW. Annual production amounts to around 30 Gigawatt hours (GWh). The facilities have valid permits. The parties have agreed not to disclose details of the purchase price.

The acquisition is a logical supplement to BKW's hydro power portfolio in Northern Italy and simultaneously enhances its local presence. Combined with its other activities in the Italian electricity market right across the value chain, this represents a further boost to BKW's position in Italy.
