Plans for an area covering over 10,000 m2 and a modern office
block
green.ch, the leading Swiss ISP and hosting provider for SMEs, is
today announcing its plans to build a new multi-tier greenDatacenter
in Lupfig in the Canton of Aargau. This is probably the largest
project of its kind ever to be approved in Switzerland. With a
surface area of over 10,000 m2, the new greenDatacenter will combine
the latest technologies with environmentally sound systems, and will
allow more customers to move their IT infrastructure to a secure,
reliable environment. The construction project should be finished by
summer 2010.
Following a careful study of possible locations, the management of
green.ch opted for Lupfig (AG), in the triangle formed by Zurich,
Bern and Basel, as the ideal place to build a new greenDatacenter.
Lupfig is also easily accessible for customers from the important
regions around Lucerne, Zug and Winterthur.
"We are expecting to see further growth in the number of customers
using our computer centres in the medium term, and therefore regard
the construction of another greenDatacenter as a strategic milestone,
pointing the way to further development for our company", says Adrian
Schlund, CEO of green.ch, on the decision to build an additional
greenDatacenter.
The new multi-tier greenDatacenter is situated well away from
potential hazards such as rivers and lakes, railway lines, major
airports and motorways, and so provides the best possible protection
from disasters or damage to buildings and technical infrastructure.
Another reason for the decision was the ready availability of power
in Lupfig. The new site also meets all other specifications for a
modern data centre.
"The new greenDatacenter will comply with ISO 27001 and satisfy
all the requirements of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory
Authority FINMA and the Basel II Accord", says green.ch CTO Aldo
Britschgi. Testing and certifying compliance with these conditions
will be carried out by the relevant official certification bodies.
Thanks to its partnerships with all the main ?fibre carriers? such
as Swisscom, Cablecom, Sunrise, Colt, Global Crossing and Litecom,
the new green.ch data centre will offer excellent connectivity and,
with at least 4 separate data lines, maximum redundancy and
availability.
Extremely strict security measures and regulations will be
enforced in and around the building to guarantee the complete
security of the greenDatacenter. The office building is also
well-equipped with security features. In the event of any special
situations arising, there are rooms available here for customers to
use. Some greenDatacenter customers also rent office space for their
own staff. About half the office space is available to green
customers for this purpose.
As well as using high-end security measures such as pedestrian
security gates and complete video and RFID surveillance, green.ch
will also employ experienced professional security personnel who will
be on site 24 hours a day.
As a leading, environmentally aware company, green.ch attaches a
high priority to protecting the environment and reducing CO2
emissions. Thanks to its ecological construction and the use of the
latest environmentally friendly materials, the green.ch data centre
will play an active part in helping to preserve the environment.
green.ch is using an innovative energy management system to
guarantee maximum energy efficiency in its data centre. green.ch also
offers its customers the option of supplying their servers with
"green" electricity from sustainable sources.
It goes without saying that the heat generated by the building
itself and the technical equipment will be recycled, for example by
being used to supply other buildings efficiently with heat.
green.ch plans to complete work on the new greenDatacenter in the
summer of 2010.
