Hamburg, May 20, 2003 - In the first quarter of the current fiscal
year, broadnet mediascape increased its revenue from TEUR 5,456 in
the fourth quarter of 2002 to TEUR 6,119, thus by 12.2 % (first
quarter of 2002: EUR 2,777). This increase over the previous year is
mostly due to the takeover of broadnet mediascape dsl services AG,
while growth in the first quarter of 2003 was organic. The Group’s
EBITDA for the first three months of the current fiscal year amounted
to TEUR 116 (first quarter of 2002: minus TEUR 1,441). The improved
EBITDA - and in particular the fact that a positive EBITDA was
attained - is mostly due to the one-time extraordinary income. This
income was the product of successful negotiations with a major
supplier about services purchased. The agreement reached allowed for
the liabilities to be reduced clearly and the accrued liabilities set
aside for this purpose to be dissolved. Adjusted for this one-off
transaction in the amount of TEUR 1,023 net, the operative result of
minus TEUR 907 remains negative, though improved by 84.5 % over the
4th quarter of 2002 (minus TEUR 5,850). The consolidated EBIT had
worsened as of March 31, 2003 to minus TEUR 3,503, compared to minus
TEUR 2,606 in the first quarter of 2002, while improving clearly over
the EBIT of minus TEUR 11,641 in the fourth quarter of 2002. As of
March 31, 2003, the financial resources of broadnet mediascape
amounted to TEUR 31,472 (first quarter of previous year: TEUR
33,624).
