BKW Pricing
Adjustment of electricity prices

Bern (ots)

As of January 1, 2014, BKW AG will be introducing an overall realignment of its electricity prices. The main reasons for these changes are: rising grid usage and system service charges imposed by Swissgrid, the increase in compensatory feed-in remuneration and, to a lesser extent, the increase in production costs in the energy sector. The actual price increase will vary from customer to customer, depending on the product and individual consumer behaviour.

The raft of cost reduction and efficiency improvement measures introduced by BKW in 2013 enabled it to maintain its prices at a stable level. Swissgrid's increase in tariffs for the transmission grid, the increase in the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) for capital committed to the electricity grid, as levied by the Federal Department for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC), the rising cost of system services and the increase in compensatory feed-in remuneration all mean that a price increase has now become necessary. The average price increase will be 9.7%, with grid usage accounting for more than 4%, system service costs for approx. 2%, compensatory feed-in remuneration for 1%, and price increases in the energy sector for 3%.

BKW will be informing its customers in detail of the forthcoming price adjustments. The new grid usage and energy prices that become applicable as of January 1, 2014, will be published at www.bkw.ch/markt on August 31, 2013. Customers will also find an energy cost calculator on the BKW website, to help them calculate the change in their own electricity costs.
