Award Presentation at the A1 Ring

Graz, Austria (ots)

AVL Honours Head of Ferrari Team
'Pit stop' for the presentation of an award,
in a location where normally the air would be filled with the roar of
engines and the squeal of tyres. The Head of the Ferrari team, Jean
Todt, received the AVL Technology Award for the year 2000 at the A1
Ring in Spielberg. Having discovered his passion for racing at an
early age, the Frenchman, now aged 55, has been Head of the legendary
Ferrari team for 8 years. Over this time he has demonstrated his
great interest in and commitment to applied research. Prof. Helmut
List, CEO of AVL, presented the 'Technology Oscar' to Jean Todt. For
List, Formula 1 stands for "challenge, and challenge is what we need
in research in order to make progress and to develop new
technologies."
The AVL Technology Award is presented every two years to
personalities of outstanding merit in the fields of research and
technology. In 1998 the award went to Bernie Ecclestone.
The heart of the silver sculpture is a high-tech crystal, which
was created at AVL over approximately 8 months under conditions of
high pressure and temperature. These crystals are used for
measurements in the combustion chamber of an engine - including
Formula 1 engines.
AVL, the world's largest privately owned and independent company
for the development of powertrain systems with internal combustion
engines as well as instrumentation and test systems, has more than
2,100 employees worldwide.
