2012 BKW prices
Lower grid usage prices and cheaper solar power

Bern (ots)

Cost reductions due to efficiencies in the grid area have enabled BKW Energy Ltd (BKW) to lower its prices by an average of 3.2% as from 1 October 2011. The adjustments vary depending on the customer groups. For households, the average reduction is 6%, and for business customers between 2.5% and 5%. BKW is also reducing the surcharge for certified solar power to 63 cents per kWh.

The 2012 prices were adjusted on the basis of current regulatory requirements as well as a programme to increase grid efficiency with the related cost-cutting measures. Despite all efforts to enhance efficiency, grid usage charges and energy prices are expected to rise in the future due to the need to fund essential investments in the grid and production areas in the interests of energy security. BKW calculates the prices based on the legal requirements set down in the Electricity Supply Act. BKW remains committed to delivering electricity reliably, ecologically, and as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible, even in the liberalised electricity market.

Effective 1 October 2011, BKW will also reduce the surcharge for its 1to1 energy sun star product from 80 cents per kWh to 63 cents per kWh, in line with the average market prices currently charged by new facilities. BKW has taken this step in a bid to boost demand, so as to enable the construction and operation of further lower-cost energy generating facilities.

BKW customers will be informed in writing about the price adjustments over the next few weeks. The new grid usage and energy prices, valid from 1 October 2011, can be viewed on the BKW website at www.bkw-fmb.ch/markt. To calculate the change in their electricity costs, customers can use the electricity cost calculator on this website.
